Terms​

  • Aphantasia. Reduced or absent voluntary mental imagery: no mind's eye. Coined in 2015 from the Greek a- (without) and phantasia (imagination). Where the Word Came From
  • Hyperphantasia. Mental imagery as vivid as real seeing. The opposite end of the spectrum. The Spectrum
  • Multisensory aphantasia. No imagery in any sense, not just sight: no imagined sounds, smells, tastes, or touch. The Spectrum
  • Anauralia. No auditory imagery, a silent mind's ear. The Spectrum
  • Anendophasia. Little or no inner speech: no inner monologue. The Spectrum
  • SDAM. Severely deficient autobiographical memory: knowing the facts of your life without being able to relive it. The Spectrum
  • Congenital aphantasia. Aphantasia you were born with. The most common kind. The Spectrum
  • Acquired aphantasia. Imagery lost after an injury, illness, or severe stress. The Spectrum
